Our Under 9s who competed in the Softball Tournament should be really proud of themselves. Both sides, the Stags and Silverbacks, played some excellent cricket at Stockton.
The Stags reached the Final, winning three out of three of their Group Matches. Well done to Bertie, Noah, Sam, Layton, Bobby and Matthew.
The Silverbacks won two of their three Group Matches, making the 3rd and 4th Play-off Final. Had they beaten Stockton Sixers in their Group Match, then it would have been an all Hartlepool Final! The Silverbacks overcame Stockton Strikers to finish in 3rd place overall. Great work by Felix, Finley, Benjamin, Harry, James and Mehdi.
Our Young Players put in some excellent performances with the bat and ball. Some excellent catches were also taken too. They should all be very proud of how they performed today.
Your Coaches are certainly proud of how they performed. It’s not just about how skills are being executed, but it’s also very pleasing to see that our Young Cricketers are playing cricket in the right spirit too! The disappointment of not managing to win today’s Tournament against a very strong Stockton Sixers side was clearly visible on the faces of the Stags. However, I’m sure that those who played for the Stags will learn from the experience. Well done in finishing in 2nd place, with the Final being a tight affair. The Sixers won be some 12 runs.
Thanks to Mehdi for playing at short notice following an injury to a previously selected player, Sam. However, special mention must go to Bertie, (who was Captain of the Stags), for his bowling exploits. Against Stockton Strikers Bertie was on a hat trick and was within a whisker of taking his third consecutive wicket. Well bowled Bertie! Top effort!!
Finally, it was great to see that at some point all of our Young Cricketers contributed to the matches that they played in, so well done to the Stags and Silverbacks on that front!
Next stop Eppleton Cricket Club on Saturday, 3rd August, 2019, before our penultimate Softball Tournament at Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club on the 18th August. The final stop for Summer, 2019 is a visit to Willington Cricket Club in early September to bring our participation in the Summer tournaments to a close.
