My name is Megan and I have been playing cricket since I was 11, playing in mixed teams at under 11,13 and 15’s.
I got my passion for cricket from my dad who played cricket for many years when he was younger and was also 1st team captain for Castle Eden, taking 6 wickets the day before I was born! My younger brother Harry also plays cricket and as a family we love to go and watch the Durham Lions at the Riverside.
When I first started playing I preferred to bowl taking two wickets in my first ever game which gave me so much confidence. I would bat if needed but in the early days really preferred not to. As I got a few games under my belt and spent a little time at the crease my love for batting grew and now I absolutely love either as long as I am playing a game of cricket.
Towards the end of last season I made the decision to try and join an all girls team, so I looked to see where my closest team was and noticed that Hartlepool had a girls section. My Mam made some enquiries to the club and I was invited to come to Park Drive to see the under 13 girls play the under 15 girls last summer and thought the setup was amazing.
There were so many juniors around the ground, both boys and girls, cheering on the two teams and I instantly knew I would love to have the opportunity to play for Hartlepool. Chris was also kind enough to invite me to play with the girls at Durham and I could really see myself playing with this team of girls as they made me feel so welcome.
I cannot wait to get back to training and play some league games for both under 17’s and the Ladies team. I am looking forward to get to know my new team mates both on and off the field and hope we have an excellent season.
